Specific Recovery Medallions
The first medallion I received was a 5 year bronze.
On one side it has the A.A. symbol with the words "To Thine Own self Be True" and the number 5 in Roman numerals. On the other side it has the serenity prayer.
The second medallion I received was a 7 year bronze. It looks the same as the 5 year bronze except there is a number 7 in Roman numerals.
Who Gives Alcoholics Anonymous Medallions?
Some well organized A.A. groups will give out medallions and often a sponsor will give them out to people they are sponsoring.
The well organized A.A. group who establishes a reputation for giving out birthday medallions, will get people dropping in on their birthday. This is a good way to keep people coming back to their particular meeting.
I did not know about A.A. medallions until I attended a meeting where they give them out. I still think about those words "To Thine Own Self Be True" when ever a decision needs to be made.

What those words mean to *me*
I translate "To Thine Own Self Be True" to mean:
If I do the very best thing for me that I can do, it will always work out in the end. It means that I never have to stay in a situation which makes me unhappy.
This philosophy has enabled me to leave crappy love relationships and leave abusive places of employment with faith. These small amounts of faith have resulted in more money than I ever thought I deserved and healthy relationships where I am not afraid to be myself.
It has rocketed me into the fourth dimension of existence because it removes the need to *think* too much about anything.
